Frequently Asked Questions

Do VicRoads supply a vehicle for a Driving Test?

No, they don’t.

Can I do the VicRoads Driving Test in my own vehicle?

Yes, as long as it has a centre handbreak (not a push button or foot handbreak) and indicators, headlights/ high beam, washer/wipers, horn, break lights, and hazard lights are all in working condition.

Can I do driving lessons in my own vehicle with an Instructor?

No, Instructors are only insured for their own vehicles, they also have dual pedal controls which make the training safer.

How many lessons will I need to obtain my licence?

It depends on the individual, as the learning process is different for everyone. What we recommend is an initial lesson to assess your driving and discuss what might be required moving forward.
